Kirsti Burnett

Kirsti Burnett is a marine biologist and ocean conservationist with expertise in science-based, community-focused solutions that support sustainable and thriving ocean ecosystems. Her interdisciplinary background bridges research, policy review, stakeholder engagement and science communication - aligning with Pisces’s vision to ensure the success of every ocean project.

As an Ocean Consultant, Kirsti applies her experience in scientific and technical writing, research, grant development, and project coordination to help clients navigate complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Whether compiling and analyzing data to inform decision-making, or distilling science into clear, actionable information, she brings a thoughtful, organized, and solutions-oriented approach to every challenge. Her work has spanned international conservation efforts, from co-leading field research on threatened sharks and rays in Cabo Verde, West Africa, to supporting Indigenous fisheries management, and improved marine governance for coastal communities.

Kirsti’s personal connection to the ocean runs deep. Raised on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore, she grew up surrounded by rugged coastlines and salt air - motivating her to pursue both a bachelor and a master of science degree in marine biology. Today, she enjoys watching the seabirds and ocean life out her kitchen window, paddling, scuba diving, and mentoring the next generation of ocean advocates.
