Bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise in finances and grant management, as well as over ten years of experience working in academia, Melissa is a leader in handling the administrative requirements of ocean projects with practiced precision.
As Co-CEO of Pisces, Melissa is dedicated to supporting ocean projects through every stage, from conception to close. Melissa’s approach brings together her extensive knowledge of research, comprehensive understanding of grants and compliance, intuitive awareness of finances and budgets, and a background in oceans to ensure that each project is handled with the care and customization it needs to be both successful and impactful.
Melissa’s connection with the ocean evolved while obtaining her PhD when she began working with coastal Arctic communities in Nunavut. She credits this time for allowing her to find her purpose and embrace her passion for the ocean.
Today, Melissa’s connection to the ocean strengthens every day in her home in the Dominican Republic, where she lives with her husband and daughter. She feels an overwhelming sense of responsibility to teach her daughter to love and respect the ocean as she grows, and also to support positive ocean impact in her Caribbean home.
As Pisces moves forward, Melissa is driven by a bold vision to eliminate the barriers holding back ocean research and innovation. She believes the future of ocean health depends not just on great ideas, but on the ability to bring them to life, and that’s where Pisces leads. Under her leadership, Pisces is building a global reputation as a catalyst for impactful ocean projects that are well-managed, well-funded, and poised for positive impact.
